Akron area residents can show their support for U.S. veterans and the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail for the 6th Annual Towpath Freedom 5k Saturday, Nov. 11.
The race will begin at Lock 3 Park, 200 S. Main St. in Akron. Same-day registration and packet pick-up will take place at 7:30 a.m., the ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. and the race begins at 9 a.m.
The event will kick off with a flag ceremony and National Anthem in honor of Veteran’s Day and pins will be presented to those who have served. Hosted by the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition, all proceeds will benefit the Ohio & Erie Canalway and the Towpath Trail.
The pre-registration cost is $30 and closes on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 11:59 p.m., and race day registration is $35. All pre-registered runners will receive a Tech T-shirt, with a limited amount available for race-day registrants. In honor of Veterans Day, the first 50 Veterans to register will receive complimentary registration, and there are still several spots available.
Runners will be timed with computer chips attached to their bib with results available on race day. More than 80 awards will be given out to the top three males and females from 13 age brackets, as well as the top three veterans. All participants are welcome to enjoy post-race food and beverages.
