The University of Akron School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration is looking for students and community members to audition for the Fall Mainstage production, “The Skin of Our Teeth,” by Thornton Wilder, directed by James Slowiak, UA Professor of Theatre.
This award winning comedy turns theatre conventions upside down as it moves from modern-day New Jersey to the Ice Age and beyond. The production features outrageous characters and provocative themes. Auditions will take place Tuesday, Sept. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m., and Wednesday, Sept. 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Studio 194, in the University of Akron’s Guzzetta Hall (on Buchtel Avenue across the street from EJ Thomas Hall).
Rehearsals will begin Monday, Sept. 11 and performance dates are Oct. 26 to Nov. 4. Cast members are expected to rehearse Sunday through Thursday evenings for three to four hours.
For the audition, performers are expected to prepare to perform 2 to 3 minutes of something you do well, like “America’s Got Talent”: for example, recite a poem, sing a song, dance, mime, do a monologue, a comic routine. Performers also may be asked to move and to work with other members of the audition group and should arrive prepared to write down all schedule conflicts.
There will be no reserved time slots, so be prepared to stay for the entire block of time. For any more information, call (330) 972-5909 or email [email protected]edu.
