Weathervane Playhouse brings to the stage Christopher Durang’s Tony Award-winning comedy, “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,” a show that reminds us that “you can’t pick your family.”
Set in a country home in Bucks County PA, Vanya and his sister, Sonia, lead uneventful and claustrophobic lives. The second sister, Masha, a famous actress who is more than slightly over-the-hill has brought her latest “Boy Toy” along for a weekend visit, as well as carrying a secret that could upend the entire family. To add to the mix, there is a clairvoyant cleaning lady and a lovely young aspiring actress.

Masha (Meg Hopp) showing off her new boy toy boyfriend, Spike (David Boncyk).
“I love plays that are wonderfully comical and witty and wild,” said Director Eileen Moushey in describing the play. “But even more, I am drawn to plays that have a ‘sweet center’ to them. These are very amusing characters, although each is discontented with their lives. It takes a wild weekend of sibling rivalry for them to reach a new sense of fulfillment and a very satisfying conclusion.”
“Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” runs from April 21 through May 8, 2016. Tickets are $22 for adults, $10 for children (17 and younger) and $11 for college students. Senior discounts are available on Thursdays and matiness for $20. Tickets can be purchased at weathervaneplayhouse.com or by calling the box office at 330-836-2626.
Winner of not only the Tony Award for Best Play 2013, but also the Drama Desk – Outstanding Play, New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award – Best Play, Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of a Broadway or Off-Broadway Play, and Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best New Play.
