Residents will get a chance to experience some situations police officers face daily at Bishop Johnson’s workshop this Saturday, May 9, from 8 a.m. to noon, entitled: “How To Stay Alive in an Unconscious Racial Society.”
The workshop will help young African-American men and their families learn what to do when stopped by police. Johnson says implicit bias can lead to just as much devastation as overt bias.
There will be two police simulators available during the workshop. Attendees will be exposed to situations the police face daily. “What would they choose in any given situation….to shoot or not to shoot?”
The workshop takes place at the House of the Lord (THOTL), 1650 Diagonal Road.
