As a follow up to their recent event celebrating World Refugee Day, World Relief Akron has invited Matt Soerens, author of “Seeking Refuge,” to share his thoughts on how the community can practically respond to the global refugee crisis.
“Seeking Refuge,” a book commissioned by Moody publishers, is the first book to offer an authoritative view on the global refugee crisis.
Co-authored by three experts from World Relief, this book answers various questions such as: “who are refugees,” “what are the real risks involved in welcoming them,” and “how do we balance compassion and security?”
This event will take place Wednesday, July 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Christ Community Chapel in Hudson.
Soerens will take time to present basic facts, sign books and engage the audience in a moderated Q&A session. Books will be available for purchase or can be pre-ordered at a discounted rate, and sample tastings from local immigrant restaurants will be provided at no cost to event attendees.
An international relief organization founded in 1944, World Relief’s mission is to empower the local church to serve the most vulnerable. Its local Akron office focuses on refugee resettlement services and, in partnership with the local church, has been helping refugee families start new lives and empowering them towards self-sufficiency since early 2015. I think i’m going to have to check out this book. Looks like a lot of good info!
